DISCUSSION:
Lightcurve has been working on the design and build of the broadband network funded
through a Public Works Board grant. In the Thorp project area, Lightcurve has spent
more than a year attempting to obtain clear and reasonable justification regarding permit
costs through the BNSF. The work to be permitted involves placing additional fiber
strands into an existing conduit within the BNSF right-of-way. BNSF representatives
have failed to attend scheduled meetings or provide information requested. These delays
are impacting rural residents and the ability to obtain broadband service.
A letter has been prepared and attached, requesting Senate and Department of Commerce
support in working with BNSF for the necessary permits, which will allow the broadband
project to proceed and reduce future delays.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Potential impact to grant funding if permits are not issued
ATTACHMENTS:
Draft Letters regarding permit support working with BNSF
