Information Technology “Study Session Staff Report”, 11/24/2025
KITTITAS COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STAFF REPORT FOR
STUDY SESSION

Information Technology

STUDY SESSION DATE: 11/24/25

TOPIC: Requesting Board Direction for the County Logo

ACTION REQUESTED: Board Direction

LEAD STAFF: Zane Kinney

RECOMMENDATION:
IT is requesting Board input on whether this focus-group approach aligns with
expectations or whether another direction should be considered.

BRIEFING SUMMARY:
• Initial concept drafts have generated a range of feedback
• County staff have voiced opinions about alternative approaches to this project.
• IT proposes forming a small focus group composed of staff and community
representatives

BACKGROUND:
The first set of draft ideas was presented to the Board at last IT study session. At that
meeting, the Board responded with feedback and asked that the draft presentation remain
with them for further consideration. Other county staff also responded to the concepts
presented.

DISCUSSION:
IT would like to request guidance from the Board regarding the next steps for the logo
redevelopment project. Initial concept drafts have generated a range of feedback, and
there has been discussion among staff about alternative approaches such as a public
design contest, engaging a university program, or seeking external designers. While Mr.
Kinney is fully willing to continue developing concepts, it may be valuable to introduce a
structured process to better capture stakeholder input.

One possible approach is forming a small focus group composed of staff and community
representatives. This group would not design the logo but would provide feedback on
criteria, usability, values, and overall direction, ensuring that the final design reflects
organizational identity and community expectations.

FISCAL IMPACTS:
No fiscal impact at this time.
