Homelessness and Affordable Housing Committee <br /> Monday, May 4th, 1:30pm <br /> Notes <br /> What does successful completion of this activity look like? <br /> • Developing a communications and educational toolkit, including a visual system map, <br /> messaging, and key resources,that municipalities, service providers, and local <br /> organizations can user to share accurate, consistent information about homelessness,the <br /> Local response system, and available services. <br /> o Gathering of resources—what do we have in the community <br /> o Info kit+QR code+flow chart <br /> o Training the community <br /> o Providers using resource too <br /> o Streamlined, standardized information structure <br /> o Works across entire county <br /> o Includes prevention programs <br /> o Ask agencies—What questions to people tend to have? <br /> o What is already out there being used? <br /> o Use best practices for messaging/graphics—other counties? <br /> o Different audiences—different versions <br /> • Increase public awareness of available prevention resources and promote early help- <br /> seeking by individuals and families at risk of homelessness. <br /> o "Do you need help?"flyers, signs, mailings, utility bills—go to where people are <br /> o Conduct outreach for current resources <br /> o Engage in person—participate in events like community connect day <br /> o Reach people before crisis <br /> o Build bridges across service providers, ie food banks <br /> • Increase the supply and availability of permanent housing options, including both <br /> traditional and non-traditional models,to reflect the diverse needs of individuals and <br /> families. <br /> o Be proactive on policies <br /> o Work with community development and planning commissions on permitting and <br /> zoning issues <br /> o Technical assistance with smaller municipalities <br /> o Zoning for non-traditional options <br /> o County policies <br /> o Participate in comprehensive plan discussions <br />
