Key Data Trends
The development of the CSAPwas guided by comprehensive
data analysis, including collision data, traffic volumes, traffic
speed, and intersection level of service.
This chapter highlights the key findings and trends identified through these
analyses, offering insights into current roadway conditions and their implications for
transportation safety and mobility in Snoqualmie Pass.
To identify key collision trends, the project team analyzed collisions that occurred in
Snoqualmie Pass over a 10-year period, from January 2014 through December 2023,
using data available through the WSDOT crash portal.'The analysis includes collisions
on local roads, SR 906, and the on- and off-ramps of l-90, but excludes I-90 itsell as
this limited-access highway is addressed under the State's Strategic Highway Safety
Plan.t
ln addition to collision data, traffic volume and speed data was evaluated to assess
roadway performance and understand how capacity constraints may impact safety
across the local network.
What is a Fatal or Serious lniury (KSD Collision?*
Afatal injuryis anyinjurythatleads to deathwithin 30 days of the
motor vehicle collision in which it occurred. A serious injury is a non-
fatal injury that results in one or more ol the following:
. Severe laceration resulting in exposure
of underlying tissues/muscle/organs
or resulting in significant loss of blood
' Broken or distorted
extremity (arm or leg)
. Suspected skull, chest, or
abdominal injury other than
bruises or minor lacerations
. Significant burns (second and
third degree burns over 10%
or more of the body)
' Unconsciousness when taken
from the crash scene
. Crush injuries
. Paralysis
" The collision data used in the preparation of this plan were provided by WSDOT
and only includes collisions that were logged with a crash report.
t htth<://tirpet7ero.com/
f httos://hishwavs.dot.eov/media/2O1 31
