From: Scott Davidson
To: Jeremy Johnston
Cc: Laura Osiadacz
Subject: Opposition to the Proposed Easton Subarea Plan(V3.0)
Date: Wednesday,April 15,2026 7:30:51 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside the Kittitas County network. Do not click
links, open attachments, fulfill requests, or follow guidance unless you recognize the sender
and have verified the content is safe.
Dear Kittitas County Board of Commissioners and Planning Department,
I am writing as a property owner in the Easton area to express my opposition to the proposed Easton
Subarea Plan (V3.0).
My family and I chose to live in Easton because of its rural character, quiet environment, and the
independence that comes with living in a small community. I am concerned that several elements of this
plan move Easton in a direction that does not reflect those values.
Although the plan emphasizes preserving Easton's rural identity, it also introduces policies that support
increased development, expanded housing flexibility, and additional infrastructure. These proposals
appear inconsistent with maintaining the low-density, minimally regulated character that defines this
community.
I am also concerned about the level of community representation reflected in the plan. While outreach
efforts are mentioned, documented participation appears limited. For example, one open house included
only a small number of attendees relative to the overall population. That raises concerns about whether
the plan truly reflects the priorities of the broader Easton community.
Additionally, the plan identifies infrastructure limitations—such as septic capacity, emergency access, and
limited services—yet still proposes expanded housing opportunities and new public amenities. Without
clearly defined solutions or sustainable funding sources, these proposals could place additional financial
and maintenance burdens on current residents.
The inclusion of new public facilities, expanded trail systems, and other infrastructure also raises
concerns about long-term costs and potential tax impacts. Many residents value Easton specifically
because it has avoided this type of growth and associated obligations.
I am particularly concerned about the direction of"managed growth" outlined in the plan. Easton's
character has been shaped by low-density living and personal responsibility for land use. Policies that
encourage increased density or additional oversight risk changing the nature of the community over time.
For these reasons, I respectfully request that the Board of County Commissioners not adopt the Easton
Subarea Plan in its current form.
At a minimum, I believe a more transparent and inclusive community engagement process is necessary—
one that ensures meaningful participation from a much larger portion of Easton residents and property
owners before moving forward.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would welcome the opportunity to provide additional input if
needed and can be reached at [email] or[phone number].
Respectfully,
