We currently have school students that have to walk upwards of half a mile to catch their
school bus. Sometimes in feet of snow, because plows don't run regularly and many of the
roads are not county owned. Water is another broader issue facing Easton. In order to
create housing, water and utilities need to be provided, to facilitate this growing demand,
yet it seems, every step of the way, this community group wants to play interference vs
being a collaborative component for common sense growth.
Many residents within the Easton community are also facing the loss of homeowners
insurance policies. Many of which have paid into policies for years, just to have their
provider pull their coverage, because of the threat they may make an active claim due to
wildfire risk. The thought of this is ridiculous to me. Pay years into policies to protect your
assets from loss, yet when that potential for loss is at its highest, through no fault of the
individual, the policy gets cancelled, leaving homeowners at risk. Growth will require a
change in this practice. It is difficult to impossible for new families to move into our
community if they cannot obtain loans due to lack of insurance acceptance.
Fire department is another one of those elements that needs to be evaluated. The Easton
Fire Department is comprised of community volunteers, such as myself. These volunteers
reside in or around Easton and dedicate time to being prepared to aid the community in
times of need. Medical aid, wildfire, or structure fire. These volunteers put their lives on
hold to ensure someone can continue theirs. The fire department is a key component to
growth. My daughter joined the Cadet Fire program upon our moving here and I joined the
department shortly thereafter. The Cadet fire program began out of necessity. Necessity for
there to be something constructive for School students to be part of. Very little
extracurricular activities were offered at the time. One sport was offered through the
school. Today, the school has multiple offerings, and the student population has immersed
themselves in these extracurricular offerings. The growth of the school in terms of
extracurricular options led to a decline in available cadets, because the school's
population is nowhere near capacity. It would stand to reason, that a community who
voted to remodel the school, and increase its capacity, would make filling said school a
priority, by way of housing. Decline in community population directly correlates with the
Lack of single family, or multifamily housing.
The community group having focus on sewer systems, public restrooms, and services for
travelers and weekenders, is not where I feel the focus should be for our community. What
I would hate to see happen is Easton become like Roslyn or CleElum. No disrespect to
either location, both are magnificent locations. What is meant is, I don't want to see locals
getting priced out of their homes, or their homes removed because a group doesn't like
