From: david vaaer
To: Jeremy Johnston; Laura Osiadacz
Subject: Easton subarea plan
Date: Monday,April 6,2026 12:48:41 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside the Kittitas County network. Do not click
links, open attachments, fulfill requests, or follow guidance unless you recognize the sender
and have verified the content is safe.
Hello,
Thank you for the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the draft Easton Subarea Plan. I
appreciate the work that has gone into compiling community input and want to share my personal
perspectives on several items currently included in the plan.
First, I would like to address the language on page 12, section 1.6, "Build one voice" under Values
Relationships/Connectedness (collaboration). I respectfully suggest that this verbiage be removed. I want
to be clear that I prefer to represent my own views and interests for Easton, rather than being
represented by any collective group or town organization. I also want to explicitly state that I reserve my
right to work directly with our elected County Commissioner and relevant county officials at any time,
independent of any group structure.
Regarding infrastructure items, I would like to comment on the repeated references to public restroom
infrastructure for visitors, including on page 28, section 4.4, page 31, section 5.4, and elsewhere. I
do not support the inclusion of public restrooms in Easton and therefore recommend that references to
restroom infrastructure be removed from the plan. I believe this type of infrastructure would represent a
significant change to the character and scale of the town and could lead to unintended consequences.
On page 29, section 4.5, the plan mentions the possibility of a "day-use area or recreation hub along
Railroad Street." I do not support the development of a recreation hub or centralized day-use area in
this location. I have concerns about increased traffic, parking demand, and impacts to nearby properties
and the overall feel of Easton.
I am also aware that comments have been submitted requesting expanded utilities and pedestrian
infrastructure within town, including sewer systems, sidewalks, and street lighting, as referenced on
page 31 under Recommended Action EA 5.1, as well as in the Infrastructure Needs (page 41) and
Infrastructure Comments (page 48) sections. At this time, I do not support the expansion of sewer
infrastructure, additional sidewalks, or street lighting beyond what currently exists. My preference is to
maintain Easton's existing rural character and infrastructure scale rather than moving toward more
urban-style development.
I appreciate that the county is not independently pushing these infrastructure changes and that the plan
is entirely community-feedback driven. Because many of the currently listed ideas appear to have come
from a small number of individuals and have not been formally contested, I felt it was important to
