We
have attended a number of the community meetings, met with Commissioner Wachsmith and
Senator Cantwell's office to discuss appropriations, including a possible eminent domain
action. RCW 8.08.010 through 8.08.080 makes the subject property approximately or remotely
for the general benefit or welfare or of the inhabitants thereof.
Last year, many homeowners were informed that their insurance companies would NOT
renew their insurance and yet the State has provided no solution to ensure that Easton's
economic basis isn't gutted leaving homeowners unable to sell their homes. Without
homeowners insurance, residents will face losing their homes when the mortgage servicer will
no longer place forced insurance -not to mention the underlying cost of forced insurance.
If Easton is to thrive, the foresight to real solutions must be provided that builds the necessary
infrastructure such as public safety.
The current"fire station" located in the older part of Easton is not an actual fire station but
rather a storage facility. When BNSF comes through the town,no fire support is available
because the roads are blocked.
The location of the proposed truck stop, if developed as a truck stop, will create all sorts of
problems for the Easton community. The risk assessment is very high. On the hand, that
parcel presents all sorts of benefits for a public safety location that would fit nicely into the
sub-area plan and would meet the longterm needs of the community which is why more than a
year ago, a group of concerned citizens filed the necessary documentation to obtain a 501(c)
(3) status to pursue grants for development of a plan that creates a building similar to KCFD 7
off I-90. It simply takes vision. We do not need sidewalks for a rural community; we do not
need sewers for housing development; we need safety first. There is nothing for 25 miles
between Exit 78 and Snoqualmie Summit. Yet with the discovery of primitive camping on
Kachess Lake - the entire area could be destroyed in a matter of minutes. While the lakes
provide aerial water disbursement the addition of a public safety facility close to Lake Kachess
will provide assurance that we are safer as a community and our economic welfare has the
