8| Funding
Response 8.1: Does your organization have, or have you applied for funding from other sources?*
Response 8.2a: If not, please explain why not.*
Response 7.10: Please explain your methodology.*
Please explain.
Roslyn Cemetery has historically been our largest year-round visitor draw. To better understand visitation, we have maintained a
physical logbook at the kiosk where guests record their names, origins, and lodging information. By refining our log this year, we
have been able to more accurately capture lodging nights in addition to visitor demographics. While our security cameras
indicate only 10–12% of visitors currently sign the logbook. Moving forward, we will no longer include Roslyn Cemetery visitor
activities in our reporting (with the exception of the annual Cemetery Clean-Up event), as another community group has agreed
to take on this responsibility. This will allow us to focus more fully on our events and upcoming large capital project
improvements while ensuring that cemetery-related activities continue to be supported. Our data projections in questions 7.2-7.6
reflect this change.
At our events, we encourage feedback through surveys, often paired with door prizes to increase participation. These surveys
provide valuable insight into attendee demographics and overnight stays, and we plan to continue refining these methods to
strengthen our reporting.
For guest presentations and events where surveys are less suitable, we use sign-in sheets similar to the cemetery log. These
not only track attendance but also capture important details such as out-of-county participation and paid lodging nights. On
average, 25% of attendees at guest presentations are non-members, demonstrating that our programs are reaching beyond our
core membership and attracting visitors from outside the immediate area.
Looking ahead to 2026, we will be undertaking two major capital improvement projects: the Coal Mines Trail interpretive signage
project and enhancements to the Coal Miners Memorial in celebration of its 30th year. We anticipate holding ribbon-cutting or
similar dedication events for both projects, which will attract visitors from outside the area and further strengthen regional
tourism.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 5
Yes
No
We have not previously applied for grant funding specifically for this project. However, we plan to pursue support for advertising
through the NKC Tribune Matching Ad Sponsorship Program, which provides a dollar-for-dollar match on advertising—an
excellent opportunity to double our outreach. Their program requires applications for individual ads or ad series at the time of
request. Since each of our events and meetings has unique marketing needs, we apply on a case-by-case basis rather than
using a single ad throughout the year.
We have a strong working relationship with the Tribune’s owners and regularly provide them with timely, relevant content to
share with their readers, which helps promote both our events and the newspaper itself. If the matching program continues, we
are confident we'll remain successful applicants and grateful recipients.
Looking ahead, we will continue to seek funding from additional sources. Our experience has been that most grant programs are
restricted to specific projects, particularly capital projects, and are less often available for event promotion and advertising. For
that reason, we strategically pursue event support through partnerships, sponsorships, and targeted programs like the Tribune’s,
while reserving grant applications for capital improvements and larger infrastructure needs.
2500 character limit
