Response 6.1: Provide any additional information which will assist the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee in evaluating your
project and its benefit to tourism.
In 2026, we will undertake two significant capital improvement projects with lasting impact on heritage preservation and tourism
in Upper Kittitas County. The first is the Coal Mines Trail interpretive signage project, which will bring to life the stories of coal
mining, immigration, and community building that shaped our region. Professionally designed interpretive signs along the trail
will ensure that residents and visitors alike have meaningful opportunities to connect with local history while enjoying the
outdoors.
The second major project is the enhancement of the Coal Miners Memorial which will celebrate its 30th year in 2026. The
memorial, prominently located in the center of downtown Roslyn, is not only a cornerstone of our community’s cultural identity
but also a highly visible landmark that draws visitors tracing family, labor, and regional history. Its central location makes it a
natural gathering point for residents and tourists alike, ensuring that improvements to the site will have an outsized impact on
downtown visitation, walkability, and the overall visitor experience. Planned enhancements will refresh and improve the area
around the memorial so it remains a place of reverence, learning, and pride for decades to come.
Both projects will culminate in public ribbon-cutting or dedication events, each expected to draw participants from well beyond
our local area. These events will generate media coverage, tourism visibility, and renewed interest in our community’s heritage
assets.
We fully recognize that LTAC funds cannot be spent directly on capital improvements. Our request focuses on eligible uses —
specifically advertising, promotion, marketing, and event-related activities that will maximize participation and encourage
overnight stays tied to these projects.
Because of the scale, long-term impact, and visitor draw of these projects, we are maximizing our request and seeking 2026
LTAC funding for our fully allowable amount. This investment will allow us to leverage local volunteer support and in-kind
contributions while ensuring that both projects meet professional standards and have broad public reach. By fully funding this
request, LTAC will help us deliver two highly visible, enduring projects that honor our past while inviting new visitors to
experience the history and culture of Upper Kittitas County.
2500 character limit
Response 6.2: You may upload any supporting documents such as graphs, images, diagrams, marketing materials, etc.
You are allowed to submit up to 3 single page (US Letter) documents in JPG, PDF or TIFF format
LTAC 2026 Fun Facts.pdf 558.96KB
LTAC 2025 Flyers.pdf 1.64MB
RRCHC Facebook Stats 2025.pdf 264.07KB
7| Previous Lodging Tax Grant Information
Response 7.1: Has your event received Lodging Tax funds in previous years?*
No, this event/project has not previously received Lodging Tax Funding
Yes, 1 year previous
Yes, 2 years previous
Yes, 3 years previous
Yes, 4 or more years previous
Response 7.2: Overall Attendance *
Past Actual *Projected *
1,217 1,200
Response 7.3: Number of people travelling more than 50 miles for your event?*
Past Actual *Projected *
395 200
Response 7.4: Number of people traveling from outside WA State for your event?*
Past Actual *Projected *
