Response 5: Please explain what plans exist to allow this project to become self-sustaining. Include any plans for ticket sales,
event sponsors, and other cost-recovery models.*
Grant funds will help launch/expand marketing and operational reach. Long-term funding will come from participant registration
fees, sponsorships, and merchandise sales, moving toward self-sufficiency withing 2-4 years.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 4
6| Additional Information
Response 6.1: Provide any additional information which will assist the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee in evaluating your
project and its benefit to tourism.
Below are testimonials from runners who have participated in the type of relays similar to our Palouse to Cascades Marathon+
Relay:
I’ve been running for over 14 years and have participated in a wide range of races, including 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, and
marathons. Some of my most memorable experiences have come from the eight relay races I’ve completed—each covering
over 200 miles, like Ragnar and Hood to Coast. For each race, I’ve traveled more than 50 miles, staying in local hotels and
enjoying nearby restaurants, breweries, and shops, which adds to the fun and community feel of the event.
Relay races are hands-down my favorite type of race. The teamwork, adventure, and shared excitement make them truly
special. While my full marathon days are behind me, I would absolutely love to participate in a marathon relay and am excited
about the possibility of this new race! -Heather Schiller, Insurance Professional
I’ve run a variety of races over the years, but the four relay races I’ve done (Ragnar) have been the most fun. Each one involved
traveling over 50 miles, staying in local hotels, and enjoying the area's restaurants and breweries with our team.
Relay races offer a great mix of challenge and camaraderie. The team atmosphere, overnight running, and shared experience
make them unforgettable. I’m excited about the idea of a marathon relay—it’s a perfect way to stay active and competitive
without the grind of a full marathon. -Jeff Schiller, Electrician
As a long-time distance runner, I have participated in multiple relay races over the last twenty years. I’ve traveled to California,
Southern and Central Oregon, and various places around Washington to participate in these races. I would be willing to travel
further to participate. There is usually high demand to secure a spot for our team and the races routinely sell out. They seem to
generate extra revenue for local businesses in the community. The community members usually embrace the event and come
out to support the runners. Relay races have a great, fun atmosphere. -Susan Roberts, Endodontist
Every relay I have participated in is one that I have had to travel to. It turns the race into a weekend away for friends. We always
support the community we are in by securing lodging, checking out local restaurants and shops, etc. Over the years, you can
see the communities start to support the runners too which is amazing! -Katie Kleven, Health Insurance Professional
2500 character limit
Response 6.2: You may upload any supporting documents such as graphs, images, diagrams, marketing materials, etc.
You are allowed to submit up to 3 single page (US Letter) documents in JPG, PDF or TIFF format
Relay testimonial.pdf 254.77KB
7| Previous Lodging Tax Grant Information
Response 7.1: Has your event received Lodging Tax funds in previous years?*
No, this event/project has not previously received Lodging Tax Funding
Yes, 1 year previous
Yes, 2 years previous
Yes, 3 years previous
Yes, 4 or more years previous
Response 7.2: Overall Attendance *
Past Actual *Projected *
