Response 1.1: Please provide a description of your project/event.*
Response 1.2: Please provide us link to a brief video summary of you organization's event/project.*
The Kittitas County Historical Museum seeks funding to increase awareness of our museum, exhibits, programs, and
educational opportunities while encouraging visitation. Our advertising highlights unique exhibits and events that showcase the
rich history and culture of Kittitas County. A major draw is our extensive collection and special exhibit on Ellensburg Blue Agate,
which attracts visitors worldwide. Our popular Legends and Lore exhibit, featuring the story of Mel’s Hole, is another global
attraction. With more than 50 rotating exhibits covering the county’s history from time immemorial to today, there is always
something new for visitors to explore.
In 2026, we will highlight key county milestones—community establishments, incorporations, major fires and floods, the 1996
snowfall, and infrastructure anniversaries—while also aligning with America250, the nationwide celebration of the United States’
semiquincentennial. These connections will provide visitors with opportunities to reflect on our local history within the broader
story of the nation.
We will continue collaborations with the Nason Aronica family for Indigenous-focused exhibits and workshops, as well as with
other diverse cultural groups, to ensure inclusive storytelling. Popular events such as walking tours, scavenger hunts, our history
pub crawl, and a robust lecture series with statewide presenters will continue to grow.
Funds will support targeted marketing to attract new audiences and strengthen tourism. Campaigns will focus on areas with
strong potential for day-trip and overnight travel, including the greater King County area (Des Moines, Kent, Issaquah), the Tri-
Cities DMA, Spokane DMA, and Portland (OR) DMA. Marketing will include organic and paid online ads, event promotions,
website updates, and newsletters to build awareness and visitation.
By connecting local stories to national narratives through America250, we aim to inspire curiosity, foster cultural understanding,
and bring more visitors to experience the diverse and dynamic history of Kittitas County.
2500 character limit
Note: You MUST be present at the Q&A meeting to qualify for funding.
https://youtu.be/k90JIwFkqLY
Response 1.3: List of Intended Use of Funds *
Note: This language will be related in the contract if awarded.
The CLTAC cannot approve funds not listed under RCW 67.28.1816.
