KITTITAS COUNTY SOLID WASTE ON-CALL <br />CLE ELUM TRANSFER STATION TANK REPLACEMENT <br /> SEPTEMBER 2025 Trenching <br /> 312316.13 - 2 <br /> <br />3.05 PREPARATION FOR UTILITY PLACEMENT <br />A. Cut out soft areas of subgrade not capable of compaction in place. Backfill with general fill. <br />B. Compact subgrade to density equal to or greater than requirements for subsequent fill material. <br />C. Until ready to backfill, maintain excavations and prevent loose soil from falling into excavation. <br />3.06 BACKFILL AND COMPACTION <br />A. Backfill to contours and elevations indicated on drawings using unfrozen materials. <br />B. Employ placement method that does not disturb or damage other work. <br />C. Systematically fill to allow maximum time for natural settlement. Do not fill over porous, wet, <br />frozen, or spongy subgrade surfaces. <br />D. Maintain optimum moisture content of fill materials to attain required compaction density. <br />E. General Fill: Place and compact materials in equal continuous layers not exceeding 8 inches <br />(200 mm) compacted depth. <br />F. Reshape and re-compact fills subjected to vehicular traffic. <br />3.07 BEDDING AND FILL AT SPECIFIC LOCATIONS <br />A. Utility Piping, Conduits, and Pavement Subbase: <br />1. Bedding: Use bedding material or match existing as approved by Engineer. <br />2. Cover with general fill. <br />3. General fill up to finished grade in lawn area and bottom of stone in drive aisle. <br />4. Compact in maximum 8 inch (200 mm) lifts to 95 percent of maximum dry density. <br />3.08 TOLERANCES <br />A. Maximum Variation from Top Surface of General Backfilling: Plus or minus 1 inch (25 mm) <br />from required elevations. <br />B. Maximum Variation from Top Surface of Backfilling Under Paved Areas: Plus or minus 1 inch <br />(25 mm) from required elevations. <br />3.09 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL <br />A. See Section 014000 - Quality Requirements for general requirements for field inspection and <br />testing. <br />3.10 CLEANING <br />A. See Section 017000 - Execution and Closeout Requirements for additional requirements. <br />B. Stockpile excavated material on-site for re-use. See Section 015713 for erosion control <br />measures. <br />C. Remove excavated material that is not required or unsuitable for re-use from site. <br />END OF SECTION
