KITTITAS COUNTY SOLID WASTE ON-CALL <br />CLE ELUM TRANSFER STATION TANK REPLACEMENT <br /> SEPTEMBER 2025 Excavation <br /> 312316 - 2 <br /> <br />SECTION 312316 <br />EXCAVATION <br />PART 1 GENERAL <br />1.01 SECTION INCLUDES <br />A. Support and protection. <br />B. Dewatering. <br />C. Excavation. <br />D. Excavation repairs. <br />1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS <br />A. Section 312316.13 - Trenching. <br />B. Section 026500 – Underground Storage Tank Removal <br />1.03 REFERENCE STANDARDS <br />A. 29 CFR 1926 - Safety and Health Regulations for Construction; Current Edition. <br />1.04 FIELD CONDITIONS <br />A. Ambient Conditions: Do not perform excavation during periods of heavy rain as directed by <br />Engineer. <br />B. Utility Location: Notify Call Before You Dig (811) before excavation to request approximate <br />underground utility marking. <br />C. Stormwater: Comply with requirements, see Section 015713 - Temporary Erosion and <br />Sediment Control. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />2.01 PREPARATION <br />A. Identify required lines, levels, contours, and datum locations. <br />B. Protect plants, lawns, rock outcroppings, and other features to remain. <br />C. Locate and identify known utilities to remain and protect from damage. <br />2.02 SUPPORT AND PROTECTION <br />A. Excavation Safety: Comply with OSHA’s Excavation Standard, 29 CFR 1926, Subpart P. <br />2.03 DEWATERING <br />A. Prevent surface water and groundwater from entering excavations and surrounding areas. <br />B. Dispose of water without causing surface erosion, sediment buildup, or endangering public <br />health or property. <br />2.04 EXCAVATION <br />A. Excavation to accommodate underground tanks and underground utilities. <br />1. Excavate to specified elevations for removal and installation of underground wastewater <br />tank and attached utility lines. <br />B. Notify Engineer of unexpected subsurface conditions and discontinue affected work in area <br />until notified to resume work. <br />C. Stockpile excavated material that is suitable for use as fill or backfill until material is needed. <br />D. Confine stockpiles to approved work area. Do not obstruct roadways or access to stockpiles. <br />2.05 CLEANING <br />A. Remove excavated material unsuitable for re-use from site. <br />B. Remove excess excavated material from site.
