Keep subgrade free of water, debris, and foreign matter during compaction or <br />proof-rolling. <br />B. Bring subgrade to proper grade and cross-section and uniformly compact <br />surface. <br />C. Do not use sections of prepared ground surface as haul roads. Protect prepared <br />subgrade from traffic. <br />D. Maintain prepared ground surface in finished condition until next course is <br />placed. <br />3.02 COMPACTION <br />A. Under Earthfill: Three passes with three-wheeled power roller weighing <br />approximately 10 tons. <br />B. Under Pavement Structure, Slabs on Grade, Footings: Compact the upper <br />6 inches to minimum of 98 percent relative compaction as determined in <br />accordance with ASTM D698. <br />3.03 SUBGRADE FOR EMBANKMENT FILL <br />A. Under Earthfill: Compact upper 6 inches to minimum of 95 percent relative <br />compaction in accordance with ASTM D698. <br />3.04 MOISTURE CONDITIONING <br />A. Dry Subgrade: Add water, then mix to make moisture content uniform <br />throughout. <br />B. Wet Subgrade: Aerate material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other <br />methods, to hasten drying process. <br />3.05 TESTING <br />A. Proof-roll subgrade with loaded dump truck or similar heavy-wheeled vehicle <br />weighing approximately 10 tons to detect soft or loose subgrade or unsuitable <br />material, as determined by Engineer.
