KITTITAS COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: March 10, 2025
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve one time relocation assistance.
BACKGROUND: The Kittitas County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney
(KCPAO) entered an interlocal agreement with the City of
Ellensburg for Prosecution Services. We have been actively
recruiting for this position and have identified a highly
qualified candidate we would like to hire. He currently
resides out of state, and to support his transition, we would
like to offer a one-time relocation assistance payment.
Historically, we have provided $2,500 for relocation.
However, due to increased moving and travel costs
compared to last year, we are requesting a 10% increase to
ensure the assistance remains adequate and competitive.
DISCUSSION: The moving stipend is a one-time expense that does not
have an ongoing budget impact. The Board of County
Commissioners approved relocation assistance for another
attorney last year who moved from out-of-state to take a
position as a criminal Deputy Prosecutor with the County.
FISCAL IMPACT: The cost is fully supported within the existing financial
structure of the interlocal agreement and does not require
supplemental funding or budget adjustments.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a one-time $3,000.00 relocation assistance
payment to a new hire for our office relocating from
Colorado, to be paid to him on his first paycheck.
ATTACHMENTS: n/a
LEAD STAFF: Greg Zempel, Prosecutor
Elishia Harvill, Chief Administrator
