Kittitas County Planning Commission Hearing March 17, 2026
Marge Brandsrud Comments
PO Bos 638
Easton WA 98935
dmbrandsrud@comcast.net
I am disappointed that public participation in this Comprehensive Plan Update has been
minimal. Only 12 citizens, organizations or public entities chose to participate in the most
recent comment period. The comments that were submitted are appropriate and should be
included in discussion and implementation of the updated document being created during this
process.
Mother nature has made us all aware that we are not able control her forces. While developing
the ability to create additional housing with equitable access there are many issues which must
be seriously considered. Domestic water availability, wildfire threats, possible increased flood
and landslide hazards. In addition the ability to obtain necessary insurance and mortgage
funding is and will continue to be challenging and expensive. Such issues will impact
accessibility to affordable housing. Suitable siting which will not impede the preservation of
the rural character, inappropriate conversion of productive agricultural and forest land. There
must be consideration for siting affordable housing which can often accommodate occupants
who may have limited transportation access, who may have employment which requires travel
and those who have frequent medical visits or may need an assisted living arrangement.
I am supportive or the proposed Easton Sub Area Plan. I believe the Sub Area Plan will create
opportunities for local small scale business development. Those businesses will support and
enhance recreational opportunities in not only Easton, but a large part to the Upper County. I
believe the Plan will open opportunities to work with local property and business owners as
well as develop working relationships with State Parks, WSDOT, National Forest, KRD, BLM and
other public entities to create sustainable recreational opportunities resulting in economic
development which will provide those so important tax dollars.
