KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: August 16, 2011 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Adopt Policies to Benefit Kittitas County's <br />Natural Resources and Reduce the Emission <br />of Greenhouse Gasses, <br />BACKGROUND: On June 13, 2011, the State of Washington <br />Department of Commerce (DOC) awarded <br />Kittitas County $617,046 in federal Community <br />Development Block Grant (CDBG) program <br />funds for improvements to the Vantage <br />wastewater treatment facility in Water District <br />Number 6. DOC requires the County to adopt <br />Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Policy <br />prior to approval of the contract for the CDBG <br />grant. <br />The currently adopted Kittitas County's <br />Comprehensive Plan includes policies that <br />benefit the County's natural resources and <br />reduce air pollutants, energy consumption, and <br />traffic congestion. Adopting these same <br />policies as the County's policies that benefit <br />Kittitas County's natural resources and reduce <br />the emission of greenhouse gasses is <br />acceptable to DOC. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve, by Board signature, the <br />resolution to adopt policies to benefit Kittitas <br />County's Natural Resources and Reduce the <br />Emission of Greenhouse Gasses. <br />HANDLING: Return 2 signed originals to Public Works <br />
