Page 1 of 1 <br />Information Technology “Study Session Staff Report”, 8/25/2025 <br />KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STAFF REPORT FOR <br />STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />Information Technology <br /> <br />STUDY SESSION DATE: 8/25/2025 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Request for Board Direction on County Logo Project <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Direct Staff <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Zane Kinney <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: IT recommends that the IT department proceed to create a <br />presentation of a selection of drafts of a new County logo for consideration of the Board. <br /> <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: Zane Kinney, member of the IT team will create a proposal of <br />at least three different County logo designs to present to the board in a future meeting. <br />These designs will focus on reinterpreting the current logo imagery. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: In the July IT Study session, Zane Kinney presented to the Board <br />report intended orient the Board on the options the board could take on this project. No <br />recommendation was sought at that time. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION: The current logo challenges the County in a couple of different ways. <br />First it was adopted before online media was a standard way to communicate with the <br />public and the logo is not versatile enough for the many ways that it is brought into <br />service. Secondly, the way it is designed it is difficult to meet certain state legislative <br />requirements that a logo must meet, such as marking fleet vehicles. <br /> <br />Mr. Kinney is a graduate of Oregon State University, with a degree in graphic design and <br />illustration and has designed many logos for businesses and organizations in our area. <br />Employing him to work on this project is financially advantageous for the County. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: None currently. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: Exhibit 1 - Washington State County Logos <br /> <br />Legal consultation?
