Dept. of Public Works
Page 2
A property exchange between Central Washington University (CWU), City of Ellensburg and County has
been supported. This property exchange will see CWU take ownership of the main hangar and make
investments in the building as well as the flight program. County will take ownership of the previous
Centerfuse building. This will be the first commercial space owned by the County, which will add to the
ownership portfolio of the airport. As the building is occupied, funding will be reinvested in the airport.
Accomplishments Achieved:
• Improved maintenance of airside and landside property
o Expanded schedule of mowing and weed abatement.
o Continued partnership with Central Washington University flight school for Foreign
Object Debris Program (FOD) walk of the runway. Improving FOD awareness and
mitigation.
o Timely snow removal and Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) filing.
o Coordinated control burn including an area adjacent to Runway 11/29 and of piles,
improving safety.
Airport Projects
o Wetland mitigation project construction complete. Currently monitoring to ensure plant
survivability.
o Previous wildlife assessment analysis was completed, and draft Wildlife Hazard
Evaluation and Management Plan adopted.
o Electrical extension to lots for future hangar development.
o Coordination with the FAA and airport staff for the parallel taxiway.
o Begin development of a hangar taxilane extension, which will provide for the availability
of future lots.
• Private Development
o One private development lease in the business park, with construction ongoing.
o Agreement with City of Ellensburg, County and Central Washington University for a
property exchange.
• Leases
o Lease renewals are being updated.
• Consultants
o Ongoing efforts being made to obtain the necessary environmental permits to complete
future planned construction including the parallel taxiway and runway narrowing.
Projects continue to be worked on to promote and develop the airfield. The AAC and Airport Staff continue
to work together with renewed focus on the strategic goals.
Sincerely,
Josh Fredrickson
Airport Manager
411 North Ruby Street, Suite 1 TEL (509) 962-7523
Ellensburg, WA 98926 FAX (509) 962-7663
