Expanding BehavioraI Health Services
Behavioral health needs, including mental health and substance use, are both a cause and consequence of
homelessness. Community input consistently emphasized that addressing these needs in isolation from housing is
ineffective. National research strongly supports integrated models that combine housing with behavioral health
services3, as these approaches lead to better outcomes and housing stability4'
"You can't heal when you're still in survivol mode. You need both, housing and mentol health to moke it work."
- Participant with lived experience.
Expanding behavioral health integration aligns directly with the plan's emphasis on client-centered care, holistic
support, and individualized services (Goals 2, 4, and 5). Kittitas County is building on existing partnerships with
behavioral health providers and will continue to promote integration through training, cross-sector collaboration,
and policy advocacy. These efforts will help ensure that individuals with complex needs receive the coordinated
support necessary to achieve and maintain stable housing.
3 SAMHSA Permanent Supportive Housing Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) Kit
4 NASEM Permonent Supportive Housina: Evoluatina the Evidence for tmprovinq Heolth Outcomes Amona People Exneriencina Chronic
Homelessness (2018)
Page | 17
