It includes actions to remove one levee, two berms, and a defunct irrigation <br />headgate, as well as construction of setback flood mitigation features. These actions, along with partial <br />restoration of former gravel pits and recontouring floodplain habitat, will result in reduced flood risk, restored <br />natural riverine processes, and improved salmonid habitat. <br />Project Long Description: <br />The Upper Yakima River Floodplain and Habitat Restoration Implementation project (Project) will restore <br />floodplain processes to 595 acres between River Mile (RM) 151.3 and RM 148.5 in a critical alluvial floodplain <br />for imperiled Yakima Basin salmonids,, <br />In 2019, Floodplains by Design funded $4,150,000 for the acquisition of 386 contiguous Yakima River <br />floodplain acres located just south of Ellensburg, Washington. These acquisitions were the linchpin for <br />reach -scale integrated floodplain management to reduce flood risk, improve aquatic habitat, support the local <br />
