4 | MWA ARCHITECTS
The City of Yakima is modernizing the existing passenger termi-
nal at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field in a multiphase
construction process after years of deferred maintenance and
chronic water intrusion throughout the terminal . The City started
implementation of recommendations in February of 2025 .
These multiphase investments will position Yakima as a leader
in the Washington State economy and the Air Terminal as an
important community asset . Major terminal improvements are
seeking minimal disruption to passengers and flights .
As the prime architect, MWA has conducted studies to inform
each design phase . These include investigations covering elec-
trical and mechanical triage and modernization with
consideration to historic preservation, cultural resources,
respectful rehabilitation, and working with the site when
needed around SEPA .
Currently, the comprehensive square foot area of the existing
building is 36,000 SF . Looking to the future, the comprehensive
area potential is 45-52,000 SF . Efficient program spaces, which
are revenue generating, will be complemented by targeted
airport-compatible revenue generating program uses, such as
restaurant, vending café, conference/meeting space and related
support spaces .
key features
»MWA applied for and was awarded approximated $4M in FAA grant funding
»Space needs assessment
»Working with Washington State when needed for SEPA and other regulatory permitting requirements
project information
Project Team: MWA Architects, DCI Engineers, FSi
Engineers, Landis Consulting
Project Type: Air Terminal Renovation
Size: 36,000 SF
Client: City of Yakima
Yakima Air Terminal-McCallister Field
yakima, wa
