3.
City of 209 North Ruby Street, Ellensburg WA 98926
TO: Commissioners Laura Osiadacz, Brett Wachsmith and Cory Wright
FROM: Josephine Camarillo, Library Director
DATE: September 15, 2025
SUBJECT: 2025 Annual Report and 2026 Funding Request
The Ellensburg Public Library respectfully requests $130,000 from the County for 2026 funding year. In
2025, the City of Ellensburg allocated 1.97% of its general fund to pay for library services. 2025 County
contribution comprised of 7% of library funding with 25% of library cardholders being county residents.
County cards increased 5.5% from 2024.
The library started off the year celebrating its 115th anniversary on January 20, 2025, with food, music
and fun! We hosted two WA Humanities speakers: Storytelling Through Indian Classical Dance and
How Beer Can Save Democracy. We also hosted One Book One County program featuring Roslyn
resident and author Natalie Hammerquist. For 2025, we were voted Best place to take kids in Kittitas
County. We opened the Hal Holmes as a temporary warming and cooling center during inclement
weather. Lastly, we updated our library card design with a design contest. We received 21 entries, and
the winning design was a beautiful quail drawing created by Megan Pickerel-Winer. Patrons may
replace their current card with a new card at no cost till the end of October.
The library continues to provide the community a diverse collection of materials and electronic
resources, community space, and educational programming to encourage lifelong learning. We provide
a safe, welcoming environment with skilled assistance. The library offers over 55,000 physical items
that include books, audio-visual items, 94 magazines and newspapers and 58,000 downloadable
eBooks and eAudiobooks. We also offer Discover Passes, hot spots and laptops for patron checkout.
The Ellensburg Public Library continues to thrive and serve the community. We are working at full
capacity with in-person and virtual services. Thank you again for your continued support of the library
and for your consideration of the library's 2026 budget request.
Sincerely, Stats through Aug31st 2024 2025 f %Change
Circulation
Physical Items 85178 80920 -5% -
Electronic Items 39505 40246 1.9%
Cardholders
Total 13901 15262 9.8%
Count Residents 3633 3832 5.5%
Josephine Camarillo, Director
Ellensburg Public Library Summer Reading
(509) 962-7252 Total Participants 1154 1058 -8%
camariNoi(U)ellensburctwa.gov County Residents(youth) 386 1 394 2%
www.ellensburglibrary.org
