These changes matter because:
The floodplain defines where stricter building standards apply and where flood
insurance may be required, especially for properties with mortgages.
The base flood elevation determines how high buildings must be constructed to
reduce flood damage.
Floodways are areas with strict regulations: new residential buildings are not
allowed, existing buildings cannot be significantly improved, and all
development must prove it will not increase flood risk before approval.
When will the new maps take effect?
We do not know for sure when FEMA will issue their determination. We anticipate this
will occur within the next 1 to 6 months. The new maps will become effective
approximately 120 days after FEMA issues a Letter of Final Determination.
Why does Kittitas County Participate in the National Flood Insurance Program?
Participation in the NFIP helps protect residents and property in areas at higher risk for
flooding. It also ensures that federally backed flood insurance is available to property
owners in our county. To remain in the program, Kittitas County must follow federal
regulations for development in mapped floodplains.
What can I do if I disagree with the new FEMA maps?
FEMA offers a 90-day appeal period that begins when they issue the Letter of Final
Determination. To appeal, you must provide scientific or technical data that supports
your case. Appeals must be submitted to Kittitas County, and we will forward all
received materials to FEMA for consideration.
How will the map changes affect the project I have planned for my property?
It depends on your property's location. We encourage you to contact us directly for
specific information about how the map changes might impact your plans or
development requirements.
Full Technical Report
The full technical report from this study is
available online:
Contact Us
ryr*+-►. 509-962-75 2
publimorks n co.kcittitas.wams
EASTON REACH YAKIMA RIVER FLOOD HAZARD
ANALYSIS AND MAPPING INVESTIGATION
Yakima River Mile 191 To 202
ftp,ra,
[owKyP tWarin
411 N Auby Slnl
Ellell u.&WAM26
