KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC WORKS—BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: August 11, 2025
TOPIC: Snoqualmie Pass Comprehensive Safety Action
Plan Update
ACTION REQUESTED: Information only
LEAD STAFF:
Cameron Curtis
RECOMMENDATION:
Informational briefing-No action required
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
• In 2023, the County received funding through the federal "Safe Streets and Road
for All" (SS4A)program to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
• As a part of the project, a stakeholder's group was created including members of
the public and other agencies including WSDOT, King County, Washington State
Patrol, the Fire District, etc.
• Public Works and the consultant have engaged with the stakeholder group for
input throughout the development of the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
(CSAP).
■ The consultant has completed a draft of the CSAP.
BACKGROUND:
Public Works applied for and received a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to
evaluate the Snoqualmie Pass area for road safety and capacity concerns. This effort will
result in a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP) identifying potential projects
which would result in increasing safety for all road users.
Due to the unique seasonal dynamics of Snoqualmie Pass, Public Works and our
consultants placed a strong emphasis on community engagement and feedback. A
Stakeholder group was created consisting of local members of the community including
residents and business owners, Washington State Department of Transportation
(WSDOT) maintenance and planning personnel, police agencies (including Washington
State Patrol and County Sheriff s office), the Local Fire District, and others with a vested
interest in improving safety in the area.
