KITTITAS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL ZONE DISTRICT
FEMA FLOOD
Y
MAP UPDATES
Background
The Elk Meadows, Elk Meadows Park, Pine Glen, and Sun Island
communities frequently experience flooding from the Yakima '.
River.These neighborhoods are among the most frequently ;
flooded areas in unincorporated Kittitas County and regularly -
suffer flood damage
@.
Although concerns about flood risks in these areas have existed
for a long time, no comprehensive flood-risk studies had been
conducted—until recently. The Easton Reach Flood Hazard
Assessment was completed to help us better understand, QR Code:Additional Study
communicate about, and plan for flood hazards. Information
FEMA Flood Map Update: .
The results from the Easton Reach Flood Hazard Assessment informed us that the
current Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA)floodplain maps are not
accurate. As part of Kittitas County's participation in the National Flood Insurance
Program (NFIP),we are required to submit updated technical flood data to FEMA for use
in official regulatory maps. FEMA is currently reviewing this data, and we expect them to
issue revised maps based on the new information.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will the updated map differ from the current mapping?
• The floodplain will expand in some areas.
• The floodway boundaries will also increase.
• Base flood elevations (BFEs)will rise in some areas and decrease in others.
Contact Us
509-952-7523
publicworks@co.kittitas.wa.us
