3.8. CRITICAL FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Critical facilities are structures or other improvements that, because of its function, size, service area, or
uniqueness, have the potential to cause serious bodily harm, extensive property damage, or disruption
of vital socioeconomic activities if it is destroyed or damaged, or if its functionality is impaired. These
include police and fire stations, utilities, government facilities, and hazardous materials facilities..a5 Critical
infrastructure is comprised of assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, which are so
vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on
security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof..a6
For the purposes of this Plan, a critical facility is a local (non-state or federal) facility or infrastructure in
either the public or private sector that provides essential products and services to the public, such as
preserving the quality of life in Kittitas County fulfilling important public safety, emergency response, and
disaster recovery functions. The loss of a critical facility would result in a severe economic or catastrophic
impact and would affect the County's ability to provide essential services that protect life and property.
