2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan Kittitas Gounty, Washington ffiEffinFE] C.2. PUBLIC SURVEY The 2025 Kittitas County Hazard Mitigation Questionnaire (i.e., Public Survey) was available in English and Spanish. The Surveys opened during Labor Day Weekend 2023. The Survey was distributed and promoted through a variety of methods such as social media (e.9., Facebook, lnstagram, Twitter), press releases to the County and Public lnformation Officers (PlOs), and county public events. Community organizations and Plan Participants were critical in connecting county and city residents with the Survey, and Kittitas County Public Works used their broad-based distribution lists of community stakeholders to disseminate the Survey to residents and employees. Ultimately, respondents for this Survey were selected from among those who volunteered to participate. No special weighting was done to reflect the demographic composition of the County. As part of this Survey, Steering Committee members, community representatives, and members of the public were asked to rate each of the hazards in terms of perceived risk. Furthermore, they were asked to rate "mitigation importance" for each of the identified hazards in the Plan. The information gathered from this survey was used to inform the hazard risk prioritization process, and to ensure the Plan adequately addressed the public's' concerns and priorities. The Survey had a total of 33 questions of multiple choice and open-ended questions. ln total 159 respondents participated in the two (2) surveys. To ensure all data can be accurately correlated, only the survey completed (in its entirety) was used in this report. ln some situations, the respondent chose not to answer one (1) or more questions which is why some discrepancies exist in the total number of responses per question. Table C-1 provides a breakdown of the Survey responses for each language. Table G-l. Public Survey Response Summary Note: After the survey was made public, minor changes to the hazards list were made. These changes include: Dam Failure was changed to Dam and Levee Failure. Extreme cold and extreme heat were added under the Severe Weather category. Volcano was changed to Volcano Activity. Wildfire smoke was added under the Wildfire category. Winter Storms were changed to Winter Weather which now includes ice storms, heavy snow, and blizzards.
