2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />Kittitas County, Washington ffilffil <br />than 1,000 earthquakes occur in the state each year. A dozen or more are strong enough that people <br />feel ground shaking. The State has experienced at least 20 damaging events in the last 125 years.-1a3 <br />There have been three (3) earthquakes in the last 100 years that have caused damage in Washington. <br />These occurred in April 1949, April 1965, and February 2001. Although most of the damage occurred <br />west of the Cascade Range, reports of intensity MMI Vl were received from the City of Roslyn during the <br />Puget Sound April 1965 earthquake. Reports included cracked and collapsed chimneys, falling of small <br />objects and furnishing, vases, small objects, and furniture were overturned, rapid strong shaking that <br />lasted 45 seconds.-1aa <br />The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network has reported 55 earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater between <br />1971 and 2023. Table 4-53 lists past seismic events that have impacted Kittitas County with a magnitude <br />of 3.0 or greater since 1971 . <br />Table 4-53.
