]*& B *KnvG <br />'h* ASSOCIATES LTD <br />Recreation Planning and Operations Consultants <br />In addition to analyzing the demographic realities of the service areas, it is possible to <br />project possible participation in recreation and sport activities. <br />Participation Numbers: On an annual basis, the National Sporting Goods Association <br />(NSGA) conducts an in-depth study and survey of how Americans spend their leisure <br />time. The data is collected in one year and the report is issued in May of the following <br />year. This information provides the data necessary to overlay the rate of participation <br />onto the Primary and Secondary Service Areas to determine market potential. <br />B*K takes the national average and combines that with participation percentages of the <br />Primary Service Area based upon age distribution, median income, region and National <br />number. Those four percentages are then averaged together to create a unique <br />participation percentage for the service area. This participation percentage, when applied <br />to the population of the Primary and Secondary Service Areas, then provides an idea of <br />the market potential for a variety of recreation activities. <br />371Page <br />
