NWS Heat Index Chart <br /> <br />Cold Wave/Extreme Cold <br />Cold waves are a rapid temperature drop within 24 hours and/or when extreme low temperatures are <br />expected for an extended period of time. The temperatures classified as a cold wave are dependent on <br />the location and defined by the local NWS Forecast Office.196F <br />196 The Wind Chill Index is a measure of how <br />cold it really feels when there is wind and low temperatures.
