OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business .
OTHER BUSINESS - No Action to be taken
2026 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PERIODIC UPDATE
LONG RANGE PLANNER JEREMY JOHNSTON stated the Comprehensive Plan
Periodic Update is required under the Growth Management Act
every ten years . The process of the update began in December
2024 and CDS is currently on schedule . CDS has adopted their
public participation plan, which includes two pop up events this
weekend, a live community survey soliciting feedback, and a plan
for more events over the summer. The plan is to get as much
public feedback as possible prior to putting the draft chapters
together. The draft chapters will be brought before the Planning
Commission during the summer. The goal and requirement is to
adopt the update before June 30tn.
COMMISSIONER HINKLE requested a copy of the stakeholders listed
in the public participation plan.
Discussion occurred regarding the Comprehensive Plan Periodic
Update process and planned public outreach. Part of the plan is
to have a couple of study sessions to get input from the
Planning Commission as the process moves along.
LONG RANGE PLANNER JOHNSTON discussed the population for housing
projections . He stated the county is responsible for gathering
the information for projecting the housing population and
economic projections . CDS has run the projections through COG
and the Board of County Commissioners and they both have
approved it . The next step is for all parties to agree on the
methodology being used in the land capacity analysis . This will
inform the cities on whether or not they have the land and the
physical area available to accommodate what the growth
projections are . The key is to make sure that we are all working
off the same information.
LONG RANGE PLANNER JOHNSTON shared that one of the other
requirements of the periodic update is to update the Critical
Areas Ordinance . CDS did adopt an update in 2021, so we don' t
anticipate a lot of change . CDS has had some interaction with
the Yakama Nation and some negotiations about how we manage
riparian buffer areas . This item will come before the Planning
Commissioner later this year.
2025-5-13 MINUTES 2
