Coordinates on an interdepartmental basis with Public Works personnel on relevant facility needs <br /> and requirements for planning purposes. <br /> This job description is a summary of the primary functions and expectations for this position.Additional <br /> department-related duties may be assigned as required. <br /> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <br /> Land Use&Recreation Planner <br /> • High school diploma or GED equivalent. <br /> • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Parks&Recreation,Engineering, Geography,or Public Administration. <br /> • Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree,subject to <br /> approval of the Planning Manager or CDS Director. <br /> • Valid Washington State driver's license. <br /> • A criminal history and background check will be performed on qualified applicants. Convictions may <br /> preclude candidates from employment in certain circumstances. Factors such as relativity to the <br /> position,age and time of the offense,seriousness and nature of the violation,and rehabilitation will be <br /> taken into consideration. <br /> • Three(3)or more years of progressively responsible experience in recreation and/or planning work. <br /> • Working knowledge of Kittitas County Planner I duties, plus understanding of the purposes and <br /> policies,and regulations of the County Planning Department. <br /> • Knowledge of principles and techniques of gathering and analyzing data. <br /> • Knowledge of techniques of public presentation. <br /> REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: <br /> • Ability to read,analyze, interpret,and implement policies,codes,and laws. <br /> • Ability to communicate with professionalism and courtesy at all times in verbal and written format. <br /> • Ability to engage with ecologists and other subject matter experts(e.g. agricultural,water,floodplain, <br /> trails specialists)and data to soundly analyze resources and develop recommendations. <br /> • Ability to prepare and conduct presentations to staff, board members,other agencies, and the public. <br /> • Ability to provide efficient and courteous service to a diverse population. <br /> • Ability to interpret and implement federal, state,and local environmental and land use codes and the <br /> Kittitas County Comprehensive Plan. <br /> • Understanding of recreation, land use and development, and the ability to educate members of the <br /> public regarding these issues. <br /> • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, GIS applications,and possess the ability to <br /> quickly learn other department or County-specific programs. <br /> • An ability to independently prioritize tasks and attend to a broad range of activities. <br /> • Must be able to operate standard office equipment and safely operate a motor vehicle. <br /> • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br /> PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: <br /> • Experience in the operation of Geographic Information Systems(GIS). <br /> • Previous work experience in the public or private sector. <br /> • Previous work experience with parks, recreation or open space planning. <br /> 2 <br />
