THE ALS ASSOCIATION
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OlJicers
Chair
Scott Kauffman
Vice Chair
Fred DeGrandis
February 19,2025
Kittitas County, Washinton
Board of Commissioners
Kittitas County Courthouse
205 West 5th, Suite 108
Ellensburg, WA 98926
RE: Request for Waiver of Exemption from Penal Bond-Bond of lndemnity
To Whom it May Concern
On behalf of the ALS Association, I am writing to formally request a waiver of the Penal
Bond - Bond of lndemnity requirement for our upcoming Ride to Defeat ALS - lron
Horse event, scheduled for August 16,2025.
This will be the second year we have hosted this event, which will follow the same route
as before, along the lron Horse State Park Trail. As a nonprofit organization dedicated
to fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) through research, patient care, and
advocacy, we take great care to ensure all necessary permits, insurance, and safety
measures are in place. Our Certificate of lnsurance (COl) includes endorsements that
meet all required coverage for this event.
The cost of the Penal Bond presents a significant financial burden on our organization,
limiting resources that would otherwise go directly toward supporting ALS research and
care. Given our nonprofit status, our track record of responsible event management,
and our commitment to risk mitigation, we respectfully request that the bond
requirement be waived.
We are happy to provide any additional information or documentation needed to support
this request. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your positive
response and the opportunity to bring this meaningful event to the community once again
Sincerely,
1,.-filt1tt'l (.:g',-t*-'
Angie L.
