KITTITAS COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STAFF REPORT FOR
BOARD OF HEALTH
Public Health Office
BOARD OF HEALTH DATE: 03/19/2025
TOPIC: Kittitas County 2024 Communicable Disease and Sexually Transmitted
Infection (STI) Review
ACTION REQUESTED: No Action — Information Only
LEAD STAFF: Lianne Bradshaw
RECOMMENDATION:
No action recommended at this time.
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
■ Overview of preliminary communicable disease & STI cases reported to the Kittitas
County Public Health Department for the year of 2024.
• Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) saw mostly Covid-19, chlamydia,
and campylobacter, among other diseases.
■ Slightly more in-depth data and information regarding rates of STIs for current and
previous years.
BACKGROUND:
This overview of our 2024 communicable disease cases will provide insight into the types of
illnesses impacting our community. These are diseases that Washington Administrative Code
Chapter 246-101 outlines as reportable conditions. These diseases are of public health
significance and may pose a threat to public health if not investigated and addressed.
These diseases range from common foodborne illnesses to vaccine -preventable diseases. Being
aware of the trends in our county and being able to identify when cases are above a certain
threshold are important to understand and stay aware of. Staff conduct continuous surveillance to
help mitigate larger outbreaks and reduce negative community impacts.
DISCUSSION:
■ Data notes and disclaimers
■ WAC, what is a notifiable condition, how are they determined?
■ Flowchart of how a disease is reported
■ What was most reported in 2024? General disease and STI
■ Overview of 2024 General Communicable Diseases
Page 1 of 2
Public Health Office "Study Session Staff Report", 12/23/2024
22
