2025 Yakima River Canyon Marathon Waste Plan
Garbage and recyclables will be gathered at the starting line on Canyon Road south of Berry Road, at the
Ellensburg Days lnn staging area on Berry Road, and at 11 aid stations along the course route on State
Route 821- through the canyon.
Plastic garbage bags will be available at all the above sites. Volunteers will be instructed to separate
recyclables, such as plastic bottles and cups, from garbage, such as used paper cups and discarded foot
wrappings, and place them into large plastic bags.
A sweep vehicle will then pick up the bags and transport them to a Dumpster at the finish line, just north
of Sundown M Ranch in Yakima County. The driver of the sweep vehicle also will pick up any race-related
garbage that is found on the course outside of the aid stations.
We aim to leave the course cleaner than when we found it. ln past years, aid-station volunteers
(especially the Boy Scouts) have used their idle time to pick up non-race-related trash near their stations.
Feel free to send further questions my way.
-Fra n k Pu rdy, 509-961-9769 a nd fpurdy@cha rte r. net
