Survey on Short-Term Rentals
without much sign of improvement, I think short-term rentals are having a net negative effect
on local morale and population outlook.
204 2/5/2025 7:08 AM
• Strain on Infrastructure—Increased short-term rentals can put a burden • Loss
of Rural Character—Kittitas County has a strong sense of community and rural charm, which
is being eroded by a revolving door of short-term visitors who have no long-term investment in
the area. • Wildfire& Environmental Concerns—With many short-term renters unfamiliar with
local fire risks and environmental guidelines, there's an increased danger of wildfires, littering,
and damage to natural areas. • Limited Law Enforcement Resources—The county may not
have the manpower to adequately enforce rental regulations, leading to ongoing violations like
noise disturbances, reckless driving, and trespassing. • Affordable Housing Shortage—The
conversion of homes into short-term rentals reduces the number of available long-term rentals,
making it harder for local workers and families to find housing.
205 Please help bring our community back and focus on the kids who have 2/5/2025 7:03 AM
no friends because all their neighbors are ABNB's
206 We don't need any 2/5/2025 6:45 AM
regulations short term rental is a small business nit local government
207 Every rental should have afire inspection, as 2/5/2025 6:34 AM
policies are dropping in our county, how can people rent these out legally? Does the mortgage
company and insurance sign off on the use?
208 Kittitas County doesn't have low income housing, it does 2/5/2025 6:29 AM
have many empty 2nd homes
209 Once Natural Disasters impact a 2/5/2025 2:32 AM
community these are some of the first groups to illegally price gouge. The county needs to
have a regulatory committee that would immediately take action if the STRs increased prices
or set inflated Long Term rental prices after a disaster such as a wildfire in the community led.
Our county has high wildfire risks with local residents at risk of losing their one and only
primary house. The county and state should help monitor pricing abuse after a disaster and
help residents take legal recourse in a time the resident may be too desperate to lead that
effort.
210 No 2/4/2025 11:51 PM
211 People can and should use their property how they want to. We 2/4/2025 11:07 PM
don't need regulations on it.
212 1 just 2/4/2025 10:48 PM
really think that if housing was in serious shortage then I would consider a cap on numbers of
short term rentals to prevent monopolies, housing shortages, and pushing out of families who
have been in the community for a long time and now there kids can't afford to stay... if that
makes sense. I'm NEVER in favor of big corporations being able to buy up lots of houses and
"corner"the market. I think you should have to be local and have"skin in the game"so you
experience the effects of how your community responds.
213 Short-term rentals provide many 2/4/2025 10:36 PM
benefits to our area, including bringing visitors who may not stay otherwise, bringing income for
local businesses and tax revenue, tax revenue from the rentals which are collected/remitted by
Airbnb and other sites, introducing our area to visitors who often return many times, among
other benefits.
214 It may be wise to restrict short term rentals in 2/4/2025 10:05 PM
tourist pockets like Suncadia, but doing so in towns such as Cle Elum & Ellensburg would limit
opportunities for visitors to be able to immerse themselves in the culture of those towns. For
too long Ellensburg has been a truck stop town. We should be creating opportunities for people
to truly visit these areas and get a taste of our local lifestyle.
215 STR's are a vital part of the Roslyn and Cle Elum economy, 2/4/2025 10:05 PM
and infringing upon, taxing or limiting STR's will negatively affect the employment and
livelihoods of the tax-paying citizens of Kittitas County.
216 STIR are a good step toward building a recreation-based economy, which 2/4/2025 9:33 PM
could help the county thrive.
76/87
