Survey on Short-Term Rentals
164 Being able to rent our home intermittently is the only way we are able to afford to purchase in 2/6/2025 5:59 AM
the area. We depend on it for now and also are involved members of the community. We value
STR's and are willing to work with the community in concerns they present
165 No 2/6/2025 12:52 AM
166 They provide value and bring in visitors. As a small business owner, we don't want to limit 2/5/2025 11:12 PM
business.
167 It's tough to tell people what they can do with their homes. I would like to see a timeline 2/5/2025 10:29 PM
limitation Ex you can rent your home 25 percent of the time and all rentals must report.
168 Short term rentals should not be regulated by government agency's. Regulations if any, should 2/5/2025 7:51 PM
come from CCR's and HOA's in the location. If there is not an HOA or CCR's it should be left
alone. A short term rentals can help an owner afford a property when real estate conditions
create hardship in home ownership.
169 Let us have them 2/5/2025 7:29 PM
170 Thank you for putting this together. I think there is a solution that could work for most, but of 2/5/2025 6:25 PM
course you can't please everyone.
171 Housing is a basic human right. I support efforts to help anyone who needs/wants assistance. 2/5/2025 5:38 PM
172 1 think like all business they are important tot the business eco system and also like all 2/5/2025 5:32 PM
business there must be a balance in the marketplace
173 Kittitas County should restrict short-term rentals. 2/5/2025 2:45 PM
174 Not at this time. 2/5/2025 2:39 PM
175 Limitations on the supply of short-term rentals may have unintended consequences. It can be 2/5/2025 2:32 PM
seen in other communities that the grandfathered short term properties hold a value advantage
over their neighbors who have been frozen out of the same opportunity. These short-term
rentals play an important role in our tourism business here in the county. They also offer an
investment opportunity that enhances the assets of those who engage in this business. Short
term rentals have become an important self-employment opportunity for many. Short term
rentals also improve the overall physical nature of many properties by improving them so they
are competitive within the marketplace of this activity. It is true that short-term rentals remove
housing stocks from the rental or purchase inventory of any given community. I believe it is
falsely presumed that the limitations on these will have a meaningful balance of the short
supply of housing it won't. The housing stock shortage is a complicated issue far outweigh the
advantages or disadvantages of the short term rental issues. It's complicated by construction
cost land use regulations interest rates and the availability of land for such development.
Existing ordinance for occupancy noise, garbage parking or all on the books already. The
question is whether or not they enforced either by the property owner of the short term rental or
the agencies responsible for the broad community enforcement of these matters. Thank you
for the opportunity to comment on this complex issue.
176 Short term rentals are very important for many different reasons in our community. 2/5/2025 2:25 PM
177 What are other communities doing with regards to STR limitations? Langley, WA, Leavenworth, 2/5/2025 1:34 PM
etc. Both of these communities have higher tourist activity and a significant amount of people
in the community in service jobs not making a living wage. I would be curious as to what is the
percentage of STIR stock they allow?
178 Short term rentals without fair taxation are wrecking this community. Locals first 2/5/2025 12:20 PM
179 OUR STORY: When we purchased our home in the very beginning of 2020, it came with a 2/5/2025 11:55 AM
"bonus home" as I call it. The bonus home had been treated very poorly by long term renters
for many years. It is also VERY close in proximity to our own home and so we felt like we had
two choices: 1) let it sit empty; or 2) clean it up and have it available for guests -both our own
guests and guests of Kittitas County. We chose option#2 and have been operating our STIR
ever since. This seems to work best to give our family a little bit of space and privacy, but also
keep the home up and running - it's the original farm house on this piece of land dating back to
around the turn of the century and I could not imagine tearing down a piece of history. As a
business, it's an expensive one, but so far we have been able to just cover our expenses with
the revenue form both SRTs and the occasional MTR (usually one or two in the winter months).
Expenses include furnishings, sheets, towels, kitchenware, appliances, replacements for all of
73/87
