Bowers Field WildlifeHazard Management Plan <br />Blackbirds <br />Blackbirds are common throughout Washington. European starlings were the 6th most <br />frequently struck species across the United States, 1990 - 2020 (Dolbeer et al. 2021). <br />The most significant blackbird observation was a roost of >20,000 birds at pond V <br />(Figure 1) in the north pasture area in August (Figure l l). Some blackbirds were <br />observed in the cattails along other areas of open water and 3 flocks of 20-200 birds each <br />were documented feeding around the cattle in the west undeveloped pasture area' The <br />fewest observations occurred in the winter, probably because of a lack of food on airfield <br />property. <br />Figure I 1 There was a roost containing >20,000 European starlings around the pond located in the <br />north pasture area in August2022. <br />31 December 2024 <br />2-8
