broadband in the Thorp and Edgemont area is anticipated to provide broadband service to
over 550 locations.
The project funded through WSBO is currently going through contract development. An
RFQ was circulated and received one submittal from a qualified provider, Lightcurve.
This is the same company working on the PWB project. This project continues to expand
broadband service in rural areas of the county, anticipating serving over 700 locations.
In November a Notice of Funding Opportunity(NOFO) was posted by the NTIA for the
BEAD project. Seven project areas have been identified and set up by the State
Broadband Office. Each project area requires a separate BEAD application. Originally it
appeared only four project areas might be viable. Currently we anticipate an application
for each of the seven project areas.
BEAD application submittals are robust, including the requirement for a full network
design and financial bonds supporting the design and construction. These items are being
developed by the providers with Public Works input. Funding match amount is
anticipated through the State of Washington. Applications are due January 31, 2025.
Working with our broadband consultant and providers it is anticipated that an application
will be submitted for each of the project areas.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Grant funding has been awarded through PWB and WSBO, additional funding will be
requested through BEAD applications.
ATTACHMENTS:
None
