The total cost of Phase 2 is $450,000. With current inflation rates, each year the project is delayed,the cost increases by approximately 5%. Excitingly, Grindline is willing to make room in their schedule to complete the project this summer. The CESC and Rotary raised $110,000 in the fall of 2023 and the City of Cle Elum recently committed $170,000 in City Lodging Tax funding. Rotary seeks the remaining $170,000 from Kittitas County to complete the skatepark in 2024. The project started as a grassroots campaign by passionate community members and developed into a joint venture of the CESC, Rotary,the City, and the greater upper Kittitas County community. The CESC and Rotary,the project's private fiscal sponsor, raised $565,000 to date Phase 1: $285,000; Phase 2: $280,000). To achieve this,they worked with local foundations such as the Suncadia Fund for Community Enhancement and Hein Legacy Foundation and held two community fundraisers that raised a combined $128,000, an incredible achievement in our small community. The community events included over 1,000 locals and visitors and the skatepark is used by community members and is regularly visited by skaters from all over the pacific northwest Furthermore our community stepped up in large ways to provide in-kind contributions to raise money and reduce the project's cost. Local businesses sacrificed merchandise, labor, and experiences for the fundraisers from their small businesses as well as goods and services such as screen printing to support fundraising events. Skatepark users and supporters demolished the old features on the site. Local businesses demolished the old concrete foundation, hauled debris from the site, and provided a dumpster for wood and metal materials, providing at least 12,000 in cost savings. A local print shop also provided services at cost,facilitating CESC's development of a popular"merch" line of stickers,t-shirts, and hoodies that can be spotted daily throughout the upper Kittitas County area and beyond. If funded, Grindline will begin Phase 2 construction in the summer of 2024 and will complete the skatepark by November 2024. Completing this project will provide an incredible skatepark experience for upper Kittitas County's children and teens and increase the use of a central and integral community park.
