2025 County Road Budget - Fund 106 <br />Program Description: <br />Public Works administers Fund 106 (County Road) on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners. The County Road division of <br />the Public Works Department provides for the planning, engineering and construction of improvements to the County Road network. <br />This includes the maintenance of over 500 miles of roadway and associated right-of-way, 112 federally inventoried bridges and 148 <br />short -span or other structures. In addition to maintenance the County Road division seeks grant funding and develops capital <br />improvement projects. The County Roads division is also responsible for administration, accounting and right-of-way management to <br />support these primary activities. <br />Revenue Sources: <br />Road levy; Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax; Permit Fees; Grant Opportunities. <br />Staff Summary: <br />Public Works employ over fifty specialists to accomplish the needed maintenance and capital improvements including: Engineers, <br />technicians, surveyors, draftsmen, heavy equipment operators, flaggers, mechanics, floodplain experts, traffic technicians, <br />managers, accountants, planners and office assistants. <br />Functions: <br />Maintenance and Operations: <br />• Snow plowing <br />• Repair damaged roadways <br />• Flood damage response <br />• Clear drainage pipes <br />• Emergency response <br />Road Preservation: <br />• Crack sealing and patching <br />• Chip sealing program <br />• Pavement work <br />Traffic Services: <br />Manage sign inventory <br />Striping program <br />Administrative: <br />• Prepare and administer department budget including capital <br />improvements <br />• Liaison with Federal and State agencies to implement projects <br />• Identify grant funding sources <br />• Prepare and submit applications for grants for State and Federal <br />funding <br />• Administration of State and Federal grants <br />• Liaison with utility companies for private utility construction in Right- <br />of-way <br />Engineering: <br />• Transportation Planning <br />• Develop Capital Improvement Plan <br />• Manage construction contracting <br />
