2025 County Road Budget - Fund 106 Program Description: Public Works administers Fund 106 (County Road) on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners. The County Road division of the Public Works Department provides for the planning, engineering and construction of improvements to the County Road network. This includes the maintenance of over 500 miles of roadway and associated right-of-way, 112 federally inventoried bridges and 148 short -span or other structures. In addition to maintenance the County Road division seeks grant funding and develops capital improvement projects. The County Roads division is also responsible for administration, accounting and right-of-way management to support these primary activities. Revenue Sources: Road levy; Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax; Permit Fees; Grant Opportunities. Staff Summary: Public Works employ over fifty specialists to accomplish the needed maintenance and capital improvements including: Engineers, technicians, surveyors, draftsmen, heavy equipment operators, flaggers, mechanics, floodplain experts, traffic technicians, managers, accountants, planners and office assistants. Functions: Maintenance and Operations: • Snow plowing • Repair damaged roadways • Flood damage response • Clear drainage pipes • Emergency response Road Preservation: • Crack sealing and patching • Chip sealing program • Pavement work Traffic Services: Manage sign inventory Striping program Administrative: • Prepare and administer department budget including capital improvements • Liaison with Federal and State agencies to implement projects • Identify grant funding sources • Prepare and submit applications for grants for State and Federal funding • Administration of State and Federal grants • Liaison with utility companies for private utility construction in Right- of-way Engineering: • Transportation Planning • Develop Capital Improvement Plan • Manage construction contracting
