Since the last briefing, in April of 2024 Public Works installed stop bars at the stop <br />condition on the north and south side of the intersection near the stop signs. Additionally, <br />to improve sight lines for westbound traffic approaching the intersection, vegetation <br />interfering was removed in August of 2024. <br />In addition to the crash data that was presented at the Public Hearing in February, new <br />accident data has been analyzed for the months following the Public Hearing. In 2020 <br />there were 2 reported accidents at this intersection. Reported crashes increased over the <br />next few years resulting in 4 crashes in 2021, 6 crashes in 2022, 9 crashes in 2023. One <br />of the crashes in 2023 occurred after the updated signs were installed as part of the safety <br />project. To date, in 2024 there have been 3 reported crashes. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Public Works has made three improvements to the intersection since last October. LED <br />advance warning signs were installed in October of 2023, stop bars were installed at the <br />stop signs in March of 2024, and vegetation was removed to improve sight lines in late <br />August of 2024. These improvements may have made a positive impact on the <br />intersection, but there has not been a long enough sample size to make that determination <br />with confidence. Only a month of data since the most recent improvement was made, and <br />the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends considering the <br />most recent year of accident data when evaluating an intersection. A comparison of 2023 <br />crash data to 2024 crash data is showing a decline in the crash data. Through September <br />9, 2023 there were six crashes.
