AppnNnrx B <br />Lnnonn ronv TBsr Rnsur,rs <br />The soil samples obtained from the test pits and borings were taken to HWA's soils laboratory <br />for testing. Laboratory tests were conducted on selected soil samples to characterize relevant <br />engineering properties of the on-site soils. Laboratory tests, as described below, included <br />determination of moisture content, grain size distributions, Atterberg Limits, California Bearing <br />Ratio, and one-dimensional consolidation of representative samples. <br />Morsrunn Coilrpnr (nv vrass): The moisture content of selected soil samples were determined <br />in general accordance with ASTM D 2216. Test results are presented on the exploration logs in <br />Appendix A, and Figures B-l and B-2, inAppendix B, which provide a summary of material <br />properties. <br />Panrrcr,n Srzn Axar.ysls oF Sorr,s: Selected samples were tested to determine the particle size <br />distribution of material in general accordance with ASTM D422. The results are summarized on <br />the Grain Size Distribution report, Figures B-3 and B-7 which also provide information <br />regarding the classification of the sample and the moisture content at the time of testing. <br />Lrqum Lnntr, Pr.asrrc Llvrrr, AND PLASTrcrry lNrrx oF SoILs (AmnnnnRc LIMITS): <br />Selected samples were tested using method ASTM D 4318, multi-point method. The results are <br />reported on the Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit, and Plasticity Index report, Figure B-8 and B-9. <br />CBR (Clr rronnrA BEARTNG RATro) oF LABoRAToRy CoMPACTED Sotr-s: Selected <br />composite samples were tested in general accordance with method ASTM D 1883. Each <br />material was moisture conditioned to near optimum moisfure content and compacted to <br />approximately 95o/o of its laboratory maximum dry density as determined per ASTM D 1557. <br />The test results are summarized on the attached CBR of Laboratory Compacted Soils reports <br />shown on Figures B-10 through B-12. <br />ONn DrvmNSroNAL CoNsor,mATroN PnoprnrrEs oF Sorr,: The consolidation properties of <br />selected soil samples were measured in general accordance with ASTM D2435. Saturation was <br />maintained by inundation of the sample throughout the test. The sample was subjected to <br />increasing increments of total stress. Loads on the sample were maintained for a period of 24- <br />hours to collect sufficient data for use in the estimation of secondary consolidation. Unloading <br />of the samples was carried out incrementally.
