INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT F'OR EMERGENCY INMATE IIOUSING <br />This ONGOING AGRDEMENT FOR EMERGENCY INMATE HOUSING, effective when signecl by both <br />pattiss is made aud entered into by and betwoon Yakinra County and the Kittiras Coruty on belialf of iheir <br />relative Sheniff s O ffices/Jai ls. <br />The.terms of this agreement shall eornurence on the date of the last signature, md shall continue as long as both <br />parties ryree. Any party may terminate this agreement by giving a thirty (30) days' notice in writing eiiher <br />persoually delivered, or nrailed postage-prepaid by cerl;ified mail, retum receipt requestecl, to partyis last known <br />addrcss for tlre purposes of giving notice urder this paragraph. <br />WHERBAS, RCW 39,34 andRCW 70,48 authorize counties to enter into a con!'act for inmate horming, and <br />WHEREAS, the palties understand that some circumstances yet unknown may requile interlocal assistance to <br />maintoin carc and custody of inmates in their respective jails, and <br />WI{ERBAS, the parties agree to enter into an agleement with the purpose of establishing the ternrs for <br />emergency housing, <br />RACITALS <br />A. Both jurisclictions maintain and operate coreotional Ihcilities hrown as jails, In order to assist oflrer <br />jurisdictions in tirnes of emetgencies each will enter into this lnterlocal Agreernent. <br />B. Yakima County and Kittitas County each have tlro statutory power to maintain and operate a <br />corectional facility and to confine inmates thercin. <br />AGREE1VIENT <br />Now, therefore, in cousideration of the respeotive agreements set forth below and for the good and valuable <br />consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, the Yakinra County a1d Kittitas <br />County agrce as follows: <br />1 . In times of emetgency, when one jurisdiction or the other has operational conflicts, the other <br />agency agfees to house no mofe than 25 inmates, unless therc is a mutual agr.eement for <br />additional housing. <br />2. The agreecl upon transfer of inrnates will be no longer than 60 clays without an extension or <br />contract. <br />3.
