• The number of reported crashes in the previous five years for the studied roads are
as follows:
Road Name Reported Crashes
Westside Rd 5
Mohar Rd 0
Nelson Siding Rd 4
Bullfrog Rd 1
BACKGROUND:
Public Works installed traffic tubes to collect data on Westside Road,Nelson Siding
Road, Mohar Road, and Bullfrog Road(Exhibit 1)to collect traffic data between August
15, 2024,to August 23, 2024. Speed and volume data for this time period are shown as
Exhibits 2 and 3 comparing measured data to typical data. Typical data is taken from
Public Works regularly collected traffic counts for all county roads representing non-
holiday weekday metrics. The comparison dates for Mohar,Nelson Siding, and Bullfrog
weekday counts come from June of 2022. The comparison date for Westside Rd comes
from weekday counts in September of 2022.
Data was not collected on Upper Peoh Point Road to be consistent with data collected on
a Holiday Weekend in early July. Equipment installed on Bullfrog Road was disturbed on
Monday, August 19, limiting the data collection dates from August 15 to August 19. Data
was collected in a different road segment than what was collected on the Holiday
Weekend. Previously, data was collected at MP 0.37 in a road segment but was collected
at MP 2.30 for this study.
There have been several [10] accidents reported on the study roads over the last five
years. Zero were reported over a holiday weekend.
DISCUSSION:
Data collected over the non-holiday weekend is less than the data that was collected on
the July 4th holiday weekend. Data collected on Bullfrog Road shows that the non-
holiday traffic is higher than the holiday week, but the data collected on Bullfrog Road
previously was skewed due to equipment error or tampering (Data was not collected on
Sunday over the holiday weekend). Both speed and volume data collected show traffic
metrics above non-holiday weekday averages for these sections of road.
The data collected on West Side Road represents traffic metrics which would likely be
slightly lower if observed in the road segment which was previously studied. Traffic
closer to town, as studied previously, does not include vehicles diverting around Mohar
Road.
Public Works has installed speed feedback radar signs on Westside Road,Nelson Siding
Road, Upper Peoh Point Road, and Bullfrog Road as was recommended in the Fehr and
