APPENDIX B
LABORATORY TEST RESULTS
The soil samples obtained from the test pits and borings were taken to HWA's soils laboratory
for testing. Laboratory tests were conducted on selected soil samples to characterize relevant
engineering properties of the on -site soils. Laboratory tests, as described below, included
determination of moisture content, grain size distributions, Atterberg Limits, California Bearing
Ratio, and one-dimensional consolidation of representative samples.
MOISTURE CONTENT (BY MASS): The moisture content of selected soil samples were determined
in general accordance with ASTM D 2216. Test results are presented on the exploration logs in
Appendix A, and Figures B-1 and B-2, in Appendix B, which provide a summary of material
properties.
PARTICLE SIZE ANALYSIS OF SOILS: Selected samples were tested to determine the particle size
distribution of material in general accordance with ASTM D422. The results are summarized on
the Grain Size Distribution report, Figures B-3 and B-7 which also provide information
regarding the classification of the sample and the moisture content at the time of testing.
LIQUID LIMIT, PLASTIC LIMIT, AND PLASTICITY INDEX OF SOILS (ATTERBERG LIMITS):
Selected samples were tested using method ASTM D 4318, multi -point method. The results are
reported on the Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit, and Plasticity Index report, Figure B-8 and B-9.
CBR (CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO) OF LABORATORY COMPACTED SOILS: Selected
composite samples were tested in general accordance with method ASTM D 1883. Each
material was moisture conditioned to near optimum moisture content and compacted to
approximately 95% of its laboratory maximum dry density as determined per ASTM D 1557.
The test results are summarized on the attached CBR of Laboratory Compacted Soils reports
shown on Figures B-10 through B-12.
ONE DIMENSIONAL CONSOLIDATION PROPERTIES OF SOIL: The consolidation properties of
selected soil samples were measured in general accordance with ASTM D2435. Saturation was
maintained by inundation of the sample throughout the test. The sample was subjected to
increasing increments of total stress. Loads on the sample were maintained for a period of 24-
hours to collect sufficient data for use in the estimation of secondary consolidation. Unloading
of the samples was carried out incrementally. The test results are presented on the attached
Consolidation Test Report, Figures B-13 through B-14.
2022-188-21 B-1 HWA GeoSciences Inc.
