KITTITAS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS PUBLIC WORKS—BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT STUDY SESSION DATE: August 26, 2024 TOPIC: 6-Year Transportation Plan Update ACTION REQUESTED: None LEAD STAFF: Cameron Curtis RECOMMENDATION: No action required BRIEFING SUMMARY: • Per RCW 36.81.121 Public Works is required to publish a 6-Year Transportation Improvement Plan prior to the adoption of the budget. • Schedule: o Open Houses— September 3and 4 o Request to Set a Public Hearing—September 17 o Adopt 6-Year Plan at Public Hearing—October 1 • Public Works has prepared and attached the final draft 6-Year Transportation Improvement Plan. This draft assumes the Road Levy passes. BACKGROUND: Public Works has been working to update the 6-Year Transportation Plan, as required by RCW 36.81.121. The Plan highlights all capital improvement projects Public Works is planning through the year 2030. Larger capital projects Public Works intends to competitively bid are identified first, and County Forces projects are identified at the end. The plan is broken down by planning, design, right of way, and construction phases. Funding sources (planned and secured) are also identified to help calculate the impact to the road fund. Public Works intends to host two open houses to share the final draft of the 6-Year Plan with the public. The first open house will be scheduled for September 3, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Public Works Office in Ellensburg. The second open house will be scheduled for September 4, from 4:00 PM to 6:OOPM at the Upper County Maintenance Shop, Cle Elum. Once Public Works has received input from the community, the draft will be finalized, and a Public Hearing will be requested.
