BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF KITTITAS STATE OF WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO.2024- A RESOLUTION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS OF KITTITAS COUNTY: AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE OT THE KITTITAS COUNTY ROAD PROPERTY TAX WHEREAS: Kittitas County and its Public Works Department are responsible for maintenance,repairs and improvement for 500 miles of roads and more than 250 bridges and structures. WHEREAS: the Board of Commissioners has determined it is essential and necessary for the continued maintenance,repairs,and improvement of the Kittitas County roads and bridges that the County provide additional funds for the County Road Department; and, WHEREAS: surveys of Kittitas County voters have shown they are reliant on the County's Public Works Department to continuously provide critical services without interruption including access for emergency vehicles, snow plowing,keeping school bus routes open and safe,bridge safety,prevention of flooding on roads and timely repairs and paving; and WHEREAS: the Board of County Commissioners have determined the revenues that will be available to Public Works Department from its existing regular property tax levy will be insufficient to provide for the continued maintenance,repairs, and improvements of county roads, and therefore determined that it is in the interest of the County and its citizens to submit a levy lid lift proposition to the voters for their consideration. This proposition, if approved,would authorize the County to levy regular property taxes beginning in 2025 at the rate of$1.01027 per$1,000 of assessed value; and, WHEREAS: the proposed increase in the County's property tax levy of$0.24 per$1,000 of assessed value for 2025 would be the equivalent of$96 per year for a typical residence valued at$400,000; and, WHEREAS: the dollar amount of the maximum allowable levy under RCW 84.55 levied for collection in 2025 shall be used for the purpose of computing the limitations on subsequent levies, in subsequent years,under said Section; and, WHEREAS: the proposal set out in this resolution requires approval by a simple majority of the voters in Kittitas County. NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners does hereby authorize the Clerk of the Board to certify a copy of this resolution to the Kittitas County Auditor no later than August 5,2024, and to perform such other duties as may be necessary or required by law to place the proposition described herein on the ballot at the election to be held on November 5, 2024; and,
