BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br /> STATE OF WASHINGTON <br /> RESOLUTION NO.2024- <br /> A RESOLUTION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS OF KITTITAS <br /> COUNTY: AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE OT THE KITTITAS COUNTY ROAD <br /> PROPERTY TAX <br /> WHEREAS: Kittitas County and its Public Works Department are responsible for <br /> maintenance,repairs and improvement for 500 miles of roads and more than 250 <br /> bridges and structures. <br /> WHEREAS: the Board of Commissioners has determined it is essential and necessary for the <br /> continued maintenance,repairs,and improvement of the Kittitas County roads <br /> and bridges that the County provide additional funds for the County Road <br /> Department; and, <br /> WHEREAS: surveys of Kittitas County voters have shown they are reliant on the County's <br /> Public Works Department to continuously provide critical services without <br /> interruption including access for emergency vehicles, snow plowing,keeping <br /> school bus routes open and safe,bridge safety,prevention of flooding on roads <br /> and timely repairs and paving; and <br /> WHEREAS: the Board of County Commissioners have determined the revenues that will be <br /> available to Public Works Department from its existing regular property tax levy <br /> will be insufficient to provide for the continued maintenance,repairs, and <br /> improvements of county roads, and therefore determined that it is in the interest <br /> of the County and its citizens to submit a levy lid lift proposition to the voters for <br /> their consideration. This proposition, if approved,would authorize the County to <br /> levy regular property taxes beginning in 2025 at the rate of$1.01027 per$1,000 <br /> of assessed value; and, <br /> WHEREAS: the proposed increase in the County's property tax levy of$0.24 per$1,000 of <br /> assessed value for 2025 would be the equivalent of$96 per year for a typical <br /> residence valued at$400,000; and, <br /> WHEREAS: the dollar amount of the maximum allowable levy under RCW 84.55 levied for <br /> collection in 2025 shall be used for the purpose of computing the limitations on <br /> subsequent levies, in subsequent years,under said Section; and, <br /> WHEREAS: the proposal set out in this resolution requires approval by a simple majority of <br /> the voters in Kittitas County. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners <br /> does hereby authorize the Clerk of the Board to certify a copy of this resolution <br /> to the Kittitas County Auditor no later than August 5,2024, and to perform such <br /> other duties as may be necessary or required by law to place the proposition <br /> described herein on the ballot at the election to be held on November 5, 2024; <br /> and, <br />
